Highlights
The artistic discourse of Ernesto Pumariega comes from the symbiosis of two parallel worlds, of essences that come together and are recreated in a universe where borders between reality and the surreal are diluted and the two converge into one. Pumariega a poet of such…an alchemist, translates his yearnings and memories for us on to canvasses that shortly after become accomplices in the impregnable passage of time.
His evocations of the dreams and play of our childhood, in a gamut of sombre colours, invite us to meditate on transcendental themes such as who we are and where we are going. Transiting life, continuing time, the symbolic and fetish connotations that we at times assign to our objects, the breath and spirit with which they are infused, the unsatisfied desires to “repair” the irreparable (life – unfortunately – goes in just one direction), make us participants in, and knowledgeable of, the artist’s work, making us reformulate concepts that have us confronting our most prized treasures: our memories.
